It’s wild how like… JKR is so skilled at so many aspects of writing, especially in little character moments, but when it comes to implications of throwaway lines she just… not a SINGLE thought.

Like in Chamber of Secrets, when Harry is talking to Tom / Voldemort and is like, you Framed Hagrid, Tom is like, yeah he was always trying to raise monsters,

he says that Hagrid tried to raise werewolf cubs under his bed like…

oh you mean like, children? like human children?

dude seeing these Mega high quality images of the surface of mars that we now have has me fucked up. Like. Mars is a place. mars is a real actual place where one could hypothetically stand. It is a physical place in the universe. ITS JUST OUT THERE LOOKING LIKE UH IDK A REGULAR OLD DESERT WITH LOTS OF ROCKS BUT ITS A WHOLE OTHER PLANET?

LIKE THIS JUST LOOKS LIKE IT COULD BE A PERSON’S BACKYARD. LIKE YEA A LITTLE DUSTY MAYBE THERE WAS A SANDSTORM BUT THAT’S COOL I’M JUST GONNA WALK DOWN TO THE STORE P S Y C H YOU’RE ON MARS BICH!

i hate to be rude and intrude on this post but we have decent pictures of the surface Venus too!

do u think catws was a fluke or did the people that worked there leave and we got the messes that were cw and iw?? or maybe the russos used up their last braincells of creativity making catws and they just can’t make any more good movies??

the russos werent qualified to helm a big budget movie when they did the winter soldier (like their most notable works prior to marvel were a couple episodes of network sitcoms) so they actually had to put in work to prove theyre qualified. theres some interview from the catws press tour in 2014 where someone asks them something like “was it hard to to do a huge feature film coming off of community and smaller projects” and i think it was anthony (?) got kind of defensive, like he was annoyed at the question, which was like HELLO?? that was a valid ass question, female directors never get benefits of the doubt like that. but whatever.

the point is though that for the first movie they had something to prove. they had a chip on their shoulder bc people who pay attention didnt think they were qualified (which they werent). so they REALLY had to make Sure the winter soldier was good. or they would get clowned. and it was good. they succeeded. catws was iconic

the reason cw and iw were messes was bc they got free rein after that. no one was doubting them anymore. and especially after civil war where the plot was just messy and full of holes, everyone Still let them get away with it. which is why infinity war was bound to be some “we need to kill off half the world” bullshit bc no one is calling them out. like what grown person comes up with that? what grown person making a billion dollar movie thinks thats like valid??

the winter soldier worked bc it was mostly fiction, shield is fake, they can do whatever they want with that. cw is a mess bc they use the US government and the UN, and congress, etc as characters. those are real things you cant make shit up for that. theres articles and articles about those things being corrupt, etc.

and with infinity war, there’s science and facts and research on capitalism that shows resource scarcity is a myth. its capitalism. like thats a real thing. you cant just be like “were gonna end world hunger by killing off half the people” and have absolutely NO character call it out. ESPECIALLY the ones who are supposed to be geniuses???

I think TWS was also so god because Steve is meant to be the heart of it and Steve is inherently a more grounded character (like less magic or tech besides assassin shit) and inherently anti-all the bullshit we got in civil war and avengers. He’s anti-capitalism, in many ways anti-war, anti-whoever the fuck is in power.

With civil war and avengers films, he’s no longer the “heart.” He’s now a foil to Tony Fucking Stark and to make him an equal contrast and not Obviously The Better Person, you have to twist who he is and make him more of a nag and he’s suddenly framed as antiquated, not the brains, etc etc.

Dead ass, Tony Stark being the “co lead” (really straight up lead) of films like Civil War and Avengers and then having Thanos be the perspective of Avengers GENUINELY ruins the integrity of every character around them because rational, likeable characters have to be seen as flawed and weak to oppose them.

TWS was good because Steve was right and his struggles were grounded. Natasha, Sam, and Bucky therefore follow suit and remain grounded and interesting to interact with him.

Civil War and Avengers are bad because all of the characters with integrity are sidelined in the name of justifying Tony’s and Thanos’ screen time and ethos.

LOTS of shit needs to be thrown out the window when Tony has to seem both likeable and the central force. You have to apologize for his wealth, his abuse and hording of power, his bad fucking ideas and stupidity. Anti-capitalist themes, anti-government themes can’t EXIST if Tony can be presented as even vaguely in the right or comparable to characters like Steve or T’challa or even 15 year old Peter fucking Parker.

TWS worked because while Hydra is absolutely in the wrong, the grey space is.. Bucky. Bucky, the victim. Bucky, who does try to get better. The grey space is Steve and his feelings for Bucky. And maybe Nick who does choose the right thing upon realizing who at Shield has become.

CW and Avengers try to make Tony and Thanos, two abominable characters, the “Grey spaces.” Moralizing around characters like that doomed the movies from the start.

The hubris of the Russos is to be blamed but them then projecting their hubris onto Tony and Thanos and then forgiving it is equally at fault. They’re cocky enough to think they can make characters like that likeable when they’re never the ones who made Steve and company likeable, they came that way. Steve without being warped as a foil to Tony is inherently likeable and morally just. They didn’t do that but think they did.

I didn’t even realize that’s what they were trying to do with tony in civil war and thanos in infinity war but you’re so right…that’s why gamoras death was framed so weirdly like the audience was expected to feel more sorry for thanos than gamora?? like just the AUDACITY and arrogance to think they could replicate the grey of buckys character with characters like tony or thanos??? lmfao

I have to LAUGH
