So i saw a post a few days ago about neurotypicals who say that stim/fidget toys make you *less* focused and how fucked that is and it got me thinking of an analogy.

So you know when you try on a friend’s glasses and you can’t see shit???? Their glasses make your vision worse, right? But you realize that it’s because YOU DON’T NEED THEM. You might mention or make a joke about how blurry things are for you, but you still understand and appreciate that the glasses help your friend see, even though they aren’t good for you personally.

So when you try your friend’s tangle or fidget cube and claim, as a blanket statement, that it makes you *less* focused and that your friend should stop using it for that reason?? You’re being just as much of an asshole as if you tried on your friend’s glasses and said “wow, you know these ACTUALLY make your vision WORSE, right???” because you’re assuming that your experience is the same as theirs when it’s really, really not.

I’m wanna show this post to my stepdad bc he thinks my stims are just toys and he has actually called me stupid for using them as coping mechanisms

This is literally the best analogy that I’ve ever seen about this

those glow-up posts where its like them at 16 wearing no makeup being a young teenager to them at 20 wearing a glam face like “I used to be ugly, there is hope” I’m like jlhjkhlg;pt[fb I can’t get behind them!!!! and people are like “yes queen!! icon!!” and I’m like huh jkhljknhlgy not wearing makeup and being like….16 doesn’t make you ugly and I hate that young teenagers are seeing those posts like…oh I need to wear a full-face of makeup to “glow-up”

“Glo up” used to be for Black women to gas each other up, like about their natural hair transition or new moisturizing routines. Black MUAs using it was probably how y’all ended up first hearing it and warping it.

Now it’s become some catch-all for puberty I guess? Which isn’t the original use, I’m pretty sure white people used to have their own terms for it until they snatched this one. This isn’t like a call out just some basic info that may be of benefit to all little girls.

Like, we already been having this discussion for years about Black people putting the “glo up” on a physical pedastal, all about appearances, when it’s supposed to be about personal growth and acceptance for your self in a white supremacist society. So even an aave term within the community became a burden on some Black girls thinking they’re ugly for being young teenagers without make up.

I hate when aave is stolen and warped but in this case, it was already being warped before it was adopted to other races around 2015 or so. And it’s harmful when it’s not used in its original context – by anyone.

So you’re definitely right, it’s not supposed to be about a full face of make up, but now it is. Where do we go from here?

Why did “be critical of your media” turn into “find all its flaws and hate it” why did people become allergic to FUN

Because people confuse “critical as in critical thinking” with “critical as in criticizing something,” so they think that “look for something bad, no matter how far-fetched” is what “being critical” means.

Me looking at this post: is this valid analysis or was it written by an anti anti?
