also yeah the best feature tumblr has (or lacks, i guess) is the inability to see other people’s follower count. not knowing how many followers anyone has makes this site more fun it’s easier to pretend we’re all just like, hanging out in a cave together.

yeah, it takes out the false value we assign to people based on how many followers they have. like on other sites we subconsciously put a price on people based on their follower count, and it majorly effects how we interact

idk can we stop…treating a.ce disc.ourse like it’s some haha funney cringe compilation or whatever the fuck because it fucking destroyed the entire ace and aro communities. there is no solid aspec community on tumblr anymore (which was by far the biggest number of aspec ppl). exclusionists took our community and fucking smashed it to pieces and y’all treat it as this fucking stupid joke when they traumatized, gaslit, and abused an entire group of queer people back into the closet. fuck every single person who doesn’t take that seriously.

My personal experience is just that, but it’s really indicative that I have watched almost every single ace and aro person I know, irl and online, actively recloset themselves as a direct result of the consequences of The Disc Horse™

I watched irl queer groups disintegrate bc a few ppl who got into leadership positions used that to make the space hostile towards ace ppl (among others as well), saw friends go from being loud and proud aces n aros to actively avoiding any mention of it and letting ppl assume their sexuality. I myself, having been IDing as ace for 10 years at least, have in the past couple since this whole “"discourse”“ came into being, actively and intentionally stopped telling anyone at all that I’m ace. To put that in some kind of perspective, I am incredibly out as trans and will actively out myself pretty constantly except to total strangers I will never see again. I feel safer telling ppl I’m trans than ace. Especially in queer spaces. It’s fucked me up so much I didn’t even quite grasp how much but today my therapist asked me for the first time about like romantic relationships and I physically could not say I am aro and ace. Completely incapable, utterly frozen, and I just kinda let her believe what she will. Ironically the fact that I’ve gone from being willing and ready to tell ppl I’m ace as just another facet of myself to entirely unable and unsolicited to tell anyone, is probably a thing one might want to talk w one’s therapist about.

This has really fucked not just the community at large but fucked up individual ace ppl in so many ways. It’s not something “funny” or remotely harmless, it’s absolutely devastated us.

I always knew AfterEllen.com was cryptoTERF trash but looks like they’re really showing where they stand now.

I don’t know how long this has been in the works but the last week of their Twitter profile is enough:

As well as supporting meghan murphy they are really pushing the idea of trans women as male predators. Miranda Yardley is an English trans woman who repeats TERF talking points for them and was very well received for opposing updating the Gender Recognition Act in the UK. The reference to Stonewall UK also suggests that the new staff are completely in bed with English TERFs, who have links to US Evangelical funding.

Stop supporting After Ellen, the name has essentially been bought out to promote a fascist agenda which wants to remove all trans people from existence and then work on doing the same to the rest of the LGBT community (whether individual contributors admit it or not).

Yeah afterellen was bought out and no longer is an independant website. No surprise they’re terfs bc thats the kind of agenda straight men controlling lesbian websites love 2 push

Yah. Past AE peeps are NOT impressed with what’s happened, what with now being so openly transphobic, as well as literally erasing ALL work from authors who are trans-inclusive and all articles that spoke positively about trans people in any manner whatsoever.

Current AfterEllen staff is literally erasing the voices of all the women who came before them. And yet people still ask for proof of how TERFs hurt cis women. Well there you fucking go. A bunch of men and TERFs have decided that all of the cis women they disagree with don’t deserve to have a voice anymore than trans women do.

Thank you @ritualofthehabit and @hrefnatheravenqueen for elaborating!

Removing past articles is particularly cruel and damaging because as the writer in an above tweet pointed out, it can erase a huge body of their work. They might have their own digital or hard copies, but beyond being Orwellian it wipes out writing samples they can point to and can undermine their credentials when trying to cite their own work.

Pneumatic tubes are vacuum tube transport systems, which we mainly know because of banks.

In a time before the internet, telephone and radio, pneumatic tubes were the information-transportation method of choice. Entire city-wide networks of tubes were built, sending messages and items across entire cities in an hour or two. Every city of every major country of every continent except Antarctica has their own massive system of pneumatic tubes.

If a tube was clogged to stuck, someone fired a gun into the tube, and based on the echo, could find out where the clog was. Unless you’re Berlin, where you just pour massive amounts of wine in the tube to “unfreeze” it.

It wasn’t until the invention of the truck when the tubes started to fall out of style. They’re still used today where objects need to move through large spaces quickly, like libraries and hospitals. Keep an eye peeled.
